Chicory inulin is the sixth ingredient on the Uthrive label. It is probably the one people ask about most, simply because it is less familiar. The short answer: it is a plant fibre from the root of the chicory plant. From a root, not a chemistry set.

What is chicory inulin?
Inulin is a type of fibre that occurs naturally in many plants. Chicory root is one of the richest sources, which is why inulin used in food and drinks very often comes from chicory. It dissolves easily in water and has a very mild taste.
Where it comes from
Chicory is a hardy plant with a pale, carrot-like root. You might know it from its blue flowers, or from roasted chicory used as a coffee alternative. The inulin is drawn from the root and dried into a fine powder, which is then blended into our recipe.
Why it is in Uthrive
For the finish. Chicory inulin gives Uthrive a soft, smooth mouthfeel, so the drink feels rounded rather than thin. When you are making a low sugar drink with no added sugar, texture matters. Inulin helps fill that gap naturally, working alongside a splash of apple juice and our natural flavours to make every can taste complete.
It is also another example of how we approached the whole label. Where we could choose an ingredient from a plant, a fruit or a lake, we did.
